What is the registry?

The registry is a sort of database which stores settings and options for your operating system. It contains information about your hardware, your software and your operating system itself. When you install a new application, entries are made into the registry so the computer knows what to do when an application gets started by a user. The same thing happens when you install a new piece of hardware, the registry logs these changes, modifies some of the values (or keys as the registry calls them) to ensure the user can use the new piece of hardware without any problems.

Why do I need a registry repair tool?

In an ideal world there would be no need for this. Unfortunately, computers are very far from being ideal. As I said before, the database logs any changes and modifies the necessary keys to make sure everything keeps running smoothly. Problems occur when you start uninstalling applications, or install an application for a second time. What happens is, your registry doesn't delete all the keys associated with that application, we call that value an invalid registry entry. All these invalid entries piling up can cause your system to slow down considerably. If you want your computer to run as smoothly as it did when you first bought it then there really is no way around it...you have to maintain your registry.

When you google "registry fix", "registry repair", or "registry cleaner", you will find dozens of applications all claiming to be the best and having the highest percentage of repair. To make it a bit easier for you to decide which application is the best for you, I decided to set up this page so you can compare all those applications claiming to be the best. I have tested all of these applications on a virtual machine. I worked through that virtual machine for a couple of months, installing and uninstalling so many things so the registry could look something like yours. I then made a copy of the 'clean' setup and ran all the applications on a clean install to see which registry repair tool is truly the best of them all.
